The Nowata County Commissioners received a letter requesting clarification from the state auditor’s at Monday morning’s meeting. The auditor’s needed to know the final designee who is responsible for overseeing the budget.

County clerk Kay Spurgeon had listed the county’s certified public accountant but that was not what the auditor’s office needed to know. Last week, Spurgeon sent the documents off and received the letter in return. She explains the mix up.

Spurgeon looked up documents from previous years and that space on the form had been left empty. The county clerk contacted Washington County and they designated the county clerk and treasurer as the financial designees. After a brief discussion the Nowata County Commissioners moved to list Spurgeon and county treasurer Lynn Wesson on the form.
