Nowata Commissioners to Help with Sheriff's Office Raises

The Nowata County Commissioners continue a long running discussion about how to allocate the County Use Tax for the 2021-22 Fiscal Year. Nowata County Sheriff Jason McClain had asked for the funds to help bump minimum salaries to $10 per hour for sheriff’s office employees.
County clerk Kay Spurgeon presented a resolution that would allocate $10,000 to Nowata County Emergency Management and then $240,000 to NCSO on top of the $103,000 that is already in the CUT fund. District three commissioner Troy Friddle said it will be nice to have some padding for the sheriff’s budget.
The commissioners reached a verbal agreement on the resolution. Spurgeon said she will need to clean up some of the language on the resolution and it will be presented next Monday for potential signing.
