Report: Nation’s Rig Count Grows as Oklahoma is Unchanged

While the nation’s total number of active oil and gas rigs grew by four in the past week, the country’s major shale drilling area, the Permian Basin, the Williston and the Anadarko Basin was unchanged.
Figures released by Baker Hughes showed a total count of 479 active oil and gas rigs including an addition of 2 more oil rigs bringing the oil rig count to 378. The number of gas rigs increased by 2 to reach 101. Offshore rigs increased by 3 to a total of 17.
The US count is 221 higher than a year ago when there were 258 and includes an addition of 197 oil rigs and 26 more gas rigs.
Oklahoma’s count of 27 is unchanged from a week ago but far more than the 10 rigs active one year ago. Texas saw its count grow by 2 to 224 rigs. Colorado’s count slipped by one to 12.
