Washington County officials are preparing for the winter weather expected to hit our area by mid-week.

Washington County District 1 Commissioner Mitch Antle says the National Weather Service in Tulsa states that there will be a Winter Storm Watch late Tuesday night through Thursday evening. Antle says there is a chance for up to a half-inch of ice. He says there is a chance of one to ten inches of snow, too.

Commissioner Antle doesn't anticipate that this will be a particularly wet event, but he says he could be wrong. Antle says there will be snow drifts if we do get the predicted drier snow and high winds in our area, so Washington County should be able to keep the roads open pretty well. However, Antle says they are prepping in anticipation of the storm because confidence is high that this particular winter weather event will occur.

The ice is expected to hit south of Washington County, which means higher snow accumulation could be expected for our area. Windy conditions are predicted as well. Any shift in the storm's track as it moves closer could drastically change the outcome of accumulation.

You can keep it tuned to KWON-KYFM-KRIG-KPGM for the latest in weather updates as the storm makes its way to our area. Cancellations and postponements will be posted on our website as they are called in here.
