The number of new Oklahoma COVID-19 cases has fallen sharply in recent weeks, and hospitalizations are also declining. But health officials are still urging caution as the pandemic continues.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health reported a seven-day average of 2,363 new cases Wednesday. That's down from nearly 12,000 daily in late January when the omicron variant of COVID-19 surged. Interim Health Commissioner Keith Reed said the numbers are expected to level off as people return to a normal schedule after staying home because of last week's winter storm.

Meantime, the state's total of confirmed cases has topped 1 million.
