Crews Battle Fire West of Copan Lake, South of Hwy 10

Crews work to knock out a fire west of Copan Lake and south of Highway 10 in Washington County.
According to Washington County Fire Department Chief Kary Cox, eight agencies and Bureau of Indian Affair resources are being utilized to battle a large wildfire. Cox says they have been fighting the fire for a few hours and anticipate it will take that much longer to fully extinguish the flames. He says the fire was about 40-percent contained by 6:27 p.m. on Sunday.
It is believed that the fire may have rekindled from a fire that took place on Saturday night in the area.

Cox says there have been no injuries related to the fire, however, there was a traffic accident that occurred near Copan Lake. He says there were a couple structures that were threatened at one point, but no homes have been impacted by the wildfire.
Cox says roughly 1,500 acres have burned so far.
