The Nowata County Commissioners approved a Rural Economic Action Plant grant application on behalf of the sheriff’s office at Monday morning’s meeting. The grant is for $50,000 towards repairs on the roof at sheriff’s office garage which has been damaged.

The project is estimated to cost around $80,000 in its entirety. This would leave a gap in funding that could be covered in multiple ways. Sheriff Jason McLain brought a couple of ideas forward.

This sparked a lengthy discussion about what projects needed to be submitted as bids and which could be submitted as proposals. The commissioners also talked about the possibility of using American Rescue Plan Act funds to help. Sheriff McLain says any further funding that could aid these repairs would be welcomed.
