Fire destroys a local business in downtown Caney, Kansas.

According to the Caney Police Department, the owner of Malibu’s Most Wanted Retail Store came to the station to report his business was on fire. CPD and the Caney Fire Department responded to the scene in the 200 Block of West 4th Street around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Fire crews from Montgomery County Rural Fire, Independence Fire, and Coffeyville Fire provided assistance. Coffeyville and Independence Fire provided aerial ladder trucks to fight the flames.

Occupants in neighboring apartments over businesses were notified and evacuated. Two buildings to the east of the fire received smoke and some fire damage. Primary damage was contained to Malibu's.

The fire remains under investigation by the Caney Police Department and the Kansas State Fire Marshal's Office. There were no injuries reported.
