The Nowata County Commissioners moved closer to a resolution regarding the First Responders Radio Project. This item has been discussed at several meetings without a solution being found. The board has tried to compromise with all individual agencies in the county to equip radios but not run up unnecessary costs.

The commissioners want each agency to at least have a few individual radios and give them the ability to purchase more down the road. District No. 2 commissioners Timmie Benson works with Wann Fire Department. He talks about the needs for that department.

Emergency management director Laurie Summers said that city officials wanted a radio for each first responder in the county. The initial quote was for over 100 handheld radios. The board was able to reduce that number to 27 handheld radios to go along with 62 truck radios.

This will take roughly $30,000 of the cost. A final quote could be presented at next week’s meeting.
