Bartlesville Man Charged with Fraud in Florida

A Bartlesville man has been charged with fraud in the courts of Flordia and will face 22 years in federal prison for his part in a financial conspiracy to defraud investors of $60 million. Jason Van Elman, age 44, was sentenced on July 22 as part of a trio who once operated Weathervane Productions. Van Elman claimed to be a financier who could match film and Broadway producers with bank funds to launch their projects. His parthers were Benjamin McCorley and Benjamin Rafael. McCorley was charged with fraud while Rafael was charged with misrepresenting himself as a loan officer for his former employer, Wells Fargo, and supplying false documents securing funding. Van Elman was originlly the only one charged  with conspiracy to commit fraud, wire frud and money laundering in May of this year but further investigation uncovered his partners. The three men operated in various states so they may face more charges at a later time.
