Wash. Co. Commissioners Look to Add Generators

Nathan Thompson
The Washington County Commissioners held their first meeting of the new fiscal year Monday morning to take care of several items including two grant proposals to potentially fund back-up generators for the Administration Building and the County Courthouse.
The grant requests are through the federal hazard mitigation assistance program, where Washington County is asking for two grants of $150,000 each. Commissioner Mike Dunlap says this has been a long-term goal for both buildings.
The commissioners also approved an agreement for property and liability insurance for the new fiscal year. The premium for is just over $302,000, which is a $50,000 increase over the premium for the previous fiscal year. Commissioners Dunlap and Mitch Antle had a discussion about the increase, where the cost to fully insure the properties would be out of range for the county.
The commissioners will meet again next Monday at 9:30 a.m.
