With school back in session across the area, lower speed limits in school zones are being enforced.

 

 Beginning this year, the two school zones on Highway 75 in Caney have been merged into one longer school zone. Caney Police Chief Ike Dye says the merging decision was not under the city's control, due to Highway 75 being a state controlled roadway.

 

 Dye says the longer school zone will eliminate any confusion about where the lower speed limits begin and end. He adds that safety of the children plays a big factor in the decision.
