Nowata County Courthouse Getting Hot

Hot temperatures a week ago made for warm working conditions this past week at the Nowata County Courthouse.

Employees at the courthouse asked for explanations on the heat at this week’s Nowata County Commissioner’s meeting. According to the commissioners, it got up to 88 degrees indoors in many of the offices during last week’s heat wave.

Commissioner Troy Friddle says the current air conditioner cannot keep up with that type of heat, leaving workers with few options.

A few workers at the courthouse voiced concerns about possible heat stroke because of conditions.

Friddle says it was previous decisions from other elected officials that made the AC issue what it is today.

The commissioners also approved jail agreements with the cities of South Coffeyville and Nowata and tabled an executive session about hiring a janitor.
