Author Mary Lehnert Talks About Her New Book on COMMUNITY CONNECTION

Tom Davis
Our guest on COMMUNITY CONNECTION on Wednesday was author Mary Lehnert. Mary, who is a seasoned broadcster (BBC and local radio in Owasso), shared with us her new book FAHRT and Wiess: Are Split Second Decisions Random or Pre-Destined?
She writes the book through the eyes of a sixteen-year-old Irish immigrant coming to America to flee the potato famine back home. Mary cleverly uses some of her experiences to the fuel her character Sean Murphy's adventures.
Mary talked about her life as young, alone and without much money I boarded an ocean liner for Auckland, New Zealand in the late sixties with dreams and hopes of a career in Broadcasting. Not encouraged for a girl growing up in modest circumstances in a small town in the north of England. Family, and friends were fiercely opposed but sent me off with their blessing and a promise I could always come home!
I chose New Zealand, a small island nation, not as overwhelming as Australia or Canada and similar with vast green pastures filled with sheep to my beloved Yorkshire Dales. I also had the address of one family in Wellington.
While working in New Zealand, Mary once interviewed the Beatles when they toured the island.
Mary said that to live, feel and experience freedom is exhilarating. "I’ve learned that love is everywhere and the tenderest care comes when you least expect it. Although successes and failures are part of the journey of life there’s deep satisfaction in both," said Mary.
"Having a short story short listed on Reedsy gave me the courage to write my life story., for my children, grandchildren and possible future generations who may inherit hopes, fears and imagination that I had and may find an echo in my words," she added.
Mary's book is available at www.amazon.com
