The city of Bartlesville has reinstated outdoor water restrictions as the area remains in Stage 2 of the newly amended Water Shortage Ordinance.

According to the city, the following restrictions are now in place

• Landscape and garden watering through automatic irrigation systems, hose end sprinklers, soaker hoses and drip irrigation are restricted to two days per week. Even numbered addresses may water on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Odd numbered addresses may water on Wednesdays and Sundays.
• No washing of motor vehicle, motorbike, boat, trailer or other vehicle or piece of equipment except at a vehicle wash facility.
• Outdoor water use to wash any outdoor surface, including but not limited to sidewalks, walkways, driveways, parking lots, tennis and other sport courts, patios, decks or other paved or hard surfaced area is prohibited.
• Use of water to flush, test or disinfect new water lines or services or new wastewater facilities is prohibited, unless a variance is granted by the Water Utilities Director.

Exceptions to this are landscape watering by means of hand-held hose only or watering can, commercial plant nursery, brief watering for testing of a new automatic irrigation system or after repair or adjustment of an existing irrigation system. Landscape watering using non-potable water through rain water collection or grey water is also permitted.

The city has been in Stage 2 for more than a month. However, the City Council suspended the Water Shortage Ordinance in September while the Water Resources Committee studied and recommended amendments to the ordinance. The City Council approved the modified ordinance on Monday.

The City Council has not yet approved higher water rates that would normally apply in Stage 2.
