An Osage County Sheriff deputy and former Town of Ramona police chief was arrested Wednesday for allegedly introducing contraband into the Osage County Jail.

Undersheriff Gary Upton says Deputy David Shawn Lynd has been immediately suspended from employment in response to the allegations.

The arrest is a result of an incident that took place earlier this week within the Osage County Jail. Here is what Undersheriff Upton had to say on the matter:

“The Osage County Sheriff’s Office maintains a zero tolerance policy towards corruption within our ranks or our county. We are steadfast in upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability in all our operations.”

Lynd was scheduled to be in Osage County District Court Thursday afternoon. However, Special Judge Cindy Pickerell simply called Lynd's name, set his bond at $5,000 and rescheduled his arraignment on possible charges for Thursday, May 30.

District Attorney Mike Fisher told Bartlesville Radio his office is going to examine the evidence against Lynd over the next week before proceeding with a decision on whether or not charges will be filed.

Lynd is the former police chief in Ramona. He had been with the Ramona Police Department since 2010. Lynd was promoted to police chief in 2015, before leaving the department in 2023 and joining the Osage County Sheriff's Office.

Lynd also had previous served as a police officer in Dewey, Wynona and Hominy.
