Sears Wind Energy Bill Passes
The Oklahoma House has approved legislation that eliminates a tax credit for the state's wind energy industry. The House voted 85-3 for the measure Wednesday and sent it to the state Senate. The measure's House sponsor, Bartlesville State Representative Earl Sears says the bill prohibits companies engaged in utilizing the wind to produce electricity from claiming the state's new investment tax credit. Sears says the industry has never utilized that tax credit and its elimination will not affect state revenue. Sears says other tax credits routinely claimed by the wind energy industry will remain available to producers.
The Legislature has approved a variety tax credit programs to wind energy developers and other industries to encourage economic growth in the state.
