27th Annual Caney Valley Tournament to Begin Monday

The 27th Annual Caney Valley Tournament will get underway from Ramona on Monday. Five area teams will battle it out for the most prestigious basketball trophy across Osage, Washington and Nowata counties.

The two-time defending champions Oklahoma Union will not be playing in the event this season. The Cougars will instead play stiffer competition in Fort Gibson this week. Caney Valley head coach Tug Brinker thinks this year’s tournament will be competitive as ever.

The field consists of Caney Valley, Barnsdall, Copan, Wesleyan Christian School and Oklahoma Union JV. Also, Chelsea, Foyil and Liberty will participate in the tournament. The Panthers have been within 10 points in the title game in back-to-back seasons. While Liberty has taken third two years in a row. Though Brinker thinks his Trojans have an excellent shot at hoisting the trophy.

Barnsdall and Libery will match up on the girl’s side to open the day at 4 p.m. on Monday. We will have radio coverage of Oklahoma Union’s JV against Copan on KRIG 104.9 FM. Tipoff set for 8:30 p.m.
