Bartlesville High School settled on its new wrestling coach late last week.

Bryan Vashus took the job after serving as the head coach at Grand Valley High School in western Colorado over the past few years.

He brings years of wrestling experience, including some playing time in the college ranks. Vashus says he still has not visited Bartlesville. He and his family spent much of the last few weeks looking up pictures online along with reading about the history of the town.

Vashus said he was not necessarily needing to make a change, but with his daughter attending Rhema Bible College this fall, and his son becoming a freshman in high school, he started looking around.

He says after talking with Thad Dilbeck he knew the wrestling job at Bartlesville job felt right.

Also mentioned that football head coach Harry Wright was instrumental in the process. Vashus said he is impressed with the facilities and the middle school program, which be believes will be vital in performing at the high school level.

Vashus talks about some of the principles he will try to instill in Bruin wrestlers.

From the Bartlesville Schools side, Dilbeck says Vashus was impressive from the get-go and BHS is excited to get started with a new regime.

Vashus will finish out the school year in Colorado before moving early this summer.

In other coaching news, Bartlesville expects to have its new boys’ basketball coach announced sometime in the next several days.
