Bruins Drop First Matchup With Jenks

Bartlesville baseball battled with Jenks at Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium Monday night and came out on the bad side of a 6-2 end result in game one of a two-game District set.

While the Bruins did lose by four runs, they actually led early in this game at 1-0 in the first inning, but that would be the only instance.

Jenks would respond with two runs in the top half of the second, third and fourth innings. The Bruins though had the bats going early, as Mason Dryden led off the bottom of the second with a double down the third base line.

Jaxon Zaun then stepped up and grabbed one of his two hits on the day with a bloop single to bring their second run home.

That would be all she wrote offensively for the Bruins.

Untimely errors on the basepaths allowed Jenks to add in three unearned runs that they wouls use to seperate themselves.

Barrett Merciez settled in as the game went along. The sophomore finished the contest at a full seven innings pitched giving up six hits and six runs, with only three being earned and two strikeouts.

Brendan Asher made some nice plays at short stop, including this one in the fifth as he made a tough throw on the run to retire a batter.

Zaun and Brett Eaves were the only Bruins to plate runs and Zaun led the team with two hits. T

he Bruins fall to 10-16 and 2-9 in district play but have a quick turnaround to play the Trojans again on Tuesday in Tulsa.

Bruins and Trojans at 6 pm will be live on KWON AM 1400 FM FM 93.3 and 95.1 and video coverage will be availavle on KWONTV.com
