Bartlesville High baseball earned a gritty split in thrilling fashion in two games during the second day of the Bruin Classic at Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium on Friday afternoon.

Bartlesville rallied from down six runs in game one and four runs in game two against two good opponents in Sapulpa and Enid.

The Chieftains would rebound to beat BHS, 10-7 in game one. Meanwhile Bartlesville held on to top Enid, 8-7 in game two. BHS finishes the Bruin Classic weekend at 2-1 following a win over Ponca City on Thursday.

The second game could be a defining mid-season victory for a young Bruin club. Bartlesville scored eight unanswered runs then held on for a one-run victory.

The big hit early came from Barrett Merciez in the third inning. Down 4-0, the sophomore came through with the bases loaded to draw Bartlesville within one.

Merciez would tie the game later in the frame on a wild pitch.

One inning later, Bartlesville (8-10) grabbed the lead with a two-strike base hit from Jackson Zaun.

Sam Marcella threw two scoreless innings in relief for Bartlesville to finish with the one-run victory.

Here is how the final out sounded on KPGM.

In game one the Bruins nearly stole another one. BHS scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth to come back from a 6-0 deficit. However, Sapulpa added two in the sixth and seventh respectively to pull away.

Bartlesville will next have another tough District set on Monday and Tuesday against Owasso.
