Copan Baseball Streaking Into Postseason

Copan baseball has turned into one of the best stories across the area this spring, as the Hornets are on a hot streak toward the end of the regular season.

Copan enters its Super Six Conference Tournament in South Coffeyville this weekend at 12-5. The Hornets have won seven of their last 10.

After not having a team and co-oping with Wesleyan Christian School last year just to field a squad, it is a notable accomplishment in 2024 with only two seniors.

Head coach Daniel Wren talks about how far his team has come on defense.

The co-oping experience with WCS only lasted one year. Wren, a Copan guy, says it really meant something to him to be able to field his own team in 2024.

Wesleyan Christian School does not have a baseball program this year. However, last year when the two schools played together, veteran local coach John Pannell was running the WCS team.

Wren says looking back on it, the experience was good for him and the Copan guys.

Copan will face the winner of Foyil and South Coffeyville at 11:00 on Friday morning. The title game will be at 3:30 Friday afternoon. It could set up a rubber match meeting between Copan and Barnsdall.

Barnsdall faces Bluejacket in the other semifinal at 1:00. The Panthers and Hornets have split two regular season games earlier this year.
