Oklahoma Union beat up on Nowata to take an opening night victory, 34-6. The Cougars ground game dominated and the defense wouldn’t budge for most of the contest.

Mason Seigel would run in a short touchdown to give OKU a 13-0 lead. Nowata would catch its only strike of luck after that. Nowata’s Monroe completed 17 of 30 passes in first ever game at quarterback. Frequent targets included Kenyon Gray, Trenton Smith and Emmett Sells. Defensively, Dagan West recovered two fumbles and had multiple tackles for loss.

Oklahoma Union will play Woodland next week. Nowata head to Chelsea for another rivalry game in week one.
