Oklahoma Wesleyan men’s basketball is heading to the NAIA Tournament with some momentum after getting another championship on Monday night just north of Wichita.

The Eagles basically cruised to another Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament title in an early onslaught against Kansas Wesleyan on Monday evening at Hartman Arena in Park City, Kansas.

OKWU used a 48-22 opening half to grab an 81-65 win and notch their fourth conference tournament championship in the past seven years. The Eagles went on an insane 17-0 run to push it to 35-10 at the 4:37 mark of the first half, all with all-conference selection Kaleb Stokes sidelined with two early fouls.

Freshman Nick Bene knocked down this three-pointer to end the half and give Wesleyan their biggest lead of the entire game.

Kansas Wesleyan would punch back a bit in the second half, as they would outscore the Eagles 43-33 in the final 20 minutes, but it would not be enough. Every time the Coyotes would get to down to four possessions, the Eagles would respond with a gut punch.

This one came from junior Jaden Lietzke who took a beautiful alley-oop lob from DJ Talton Jr. and slammed it emphatically.

Lietzke led the game in scoring with 21 points on 10-15 shooting. He notched another double-double with 13 boards, as well. Stokes and Talton Jr. were the only other Eagles in double-figures.

OKWU moves to 29-2 and will now await their NAIA Regional assignment on Thursday during a live-streamed Selection Show.

The first-round game will take place on March 15. Wesleyan will likely be a one or two seed in Wichita, Kansas for the first two games, with the rest of the event taking place in downtown Kansas City.
