Sooners Miss Out on NCAA Tourney

For the first time since 1982, both Oklahoma and Oklahoma State have missed the NCAA Tournament for three years in a row.

OU was heartbreakingly the first team left out of the field when the 68-team bracket was announced on Sunday evening. The Sooners fell victim to five “bid-stealers” or upsets in other conference tournaments.

Oklahoma announced late in the evening that the Sooners would decline an invitation to the NIT, meaning their season will come to an end at 20-12.

Despite a great start to the year, OU went 1-4 in its final five games.

The Sooners went 12-1 in non-conference play against the nation’s 274th-ranked non-conference strength of schedule out of 362 D-I schools.

At-large worthy teams in the ACC, American, Atlantic-10, Pac-12, and Mountain West all failed to win their conference tournaments, resulting in five extra bids being used for those conference tournament winners.

Dr. Charles McClelland, the Selection Committee Chair talks about the process.

A record eight teams from the Big 12 got in, with TCU being the last in the field.

KU is a 4-seed matched up with Samford in the first round.

K-State just missed out. The Wildcats are an unseeded team in the NIT. K-State will play at Iowa on Tuesday night at 8:00 in the first round.
