The Oklahoma Society of Professional Journalists presented Bartlesville High School's Darla Tresner its Teacher of the Year award Saturday night.

Tresner says it was a special night for her.  One of Tresner's students from the 1980s submitted the nomination.  Tresner says Not only did she get to see the young lady who nominated her again but she got to meet and chat with a personal hero -- Carl Bernstein.   Tresner says she  watched the Watergate hearings on television during her first high school journalism class.

According to Tresner, the idealism of that type of journalism which truly serves the public is what drew her into the profession.  She goes on to say its what she has tried to instilled within her students for 37 years.
