Carousel Needs More Work

The Kiddy Park has been without a carousel most of the summer and it looks like it will be without one for at least two more months. According to Ron Adams of the Kiddy Park Board, as the crews took apart the carousel, it was discovered that it was more damaged than originally thought. Many of the parts are being manufactured for the carousel in Wichita, KS. Those parts are expected to be delivered in 8 to ten weeks time. While it was believed that only the main bearing needed replacement, upon dismantling the carousel it was discovered that the main shaft had a crack in the middle of it, requiring volunteers to work on building a new one. While waiting for the parts and constructing a new shaft, volunteers are sandblasting other parts of the carousel, prepping them to receive a fresh coat of paint. If all goes as planned, the kiddy park should have a beautifully restored carousel ready for next season by October.
