The Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association announced officially on Tuesday morning that there has been a major change to the 2020 high school football playoff format.

All football teams will be eligible to make the playoffs, and there will be an extra week added to the usual format.

Teams will be matched up with their same opposite district for the postseason as usual, but teams will be seeded 1-8 instead of 1-4.

The OSSAA is in the process of making new brackets, which will have a spot for every team in Oklahoma.

Schools will have the option to opt out of the postseason if they wish.

OSSAA Assistant Director Mike Whaley says this is a one-time scenario.

The change was made because of the number of district games getting canceled across the state due to COVID-19. Somewhere in the range of 25 games have been canceled statewide each week due to the virus.

Teams which have COVID-19 issues in the playoffs will be forced to forfeit, with the exception of the state title game, which may be rescheduled.

The seeds for the district will be determined by a ranking that the district coaches will vote on. The rankings will begin after this Friday’s, Week 8, games.
