Farris Verdict Reached
After nearly eight hours of deliberation, the jury returned a verdict for Toby Farris. Farris was found guilty negligent homicide and sentenced to 6 months in the county jail. Charges stem from a vehicle accident in September of 2012 when a pickup truck driven by Farris crossed the center line, then hit a guard rail and then struck a mini-van driven by Robert Bade, killing Bade. Farris was allegedly distracted by his cell phone at time. Farris was taken into custody immediately following the verdict announcement. Negligent homicide was a lesser included charge, the state had sought manslaughter in the first degree. This is the first time in Washington County that manslaughter had been sought after a death due to inattentive driving caused by a cell phone.
