Pawhuska City Attorney Due In Court Over DUI Incident
On Wednesday, the Pawhuska city attorney, Jesse J. Worten III, was to appear in Municipal Court over his driving while under the influence of alcohol citation.
This comes after last week’s release of a video and police report of an incident that happened back on July 3 following an accident that happened near where Worten lived.
In the video, Pawhuska police officer Chris Rumsey was at his home in the 1700 block of Leahy in Pawhuska where he heard the accident unfold, and according to Rumsey, when he went to investigate, he saw a vehicle wrecked in a front yard.
In the report, Worten admitted to the officer that he was “drunk,” and Rumsey said his speech was “slurred” and that he “smelled of alcohol.”
Then, after dispatching an on-duty officer, Rumsey called Pawhuska City Manager Paul McAlexander. He allegedly told officers to not arrest Worten and that he would “take care” of the situation the following Monday.
Also in the video, McAlexander can be seen at the sight of the incident discussing with officers to take Worten to the police department and hold him in a cell until his wife, councilwoman Cathy Worten, could come pick him up.
No sobriety test was conducted during the incident, according to the police records, but Worten was issued a citation sometime the same day of the accident.
We will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
